What is the absolute best cable? What are the absolute best connecters I can get?

I looked around at some mogami cables and there are a ton of different kinds each with different numbers that I don't understand. Which is the best type of mogami? If you don't think mogami is the best out there then by all means steer me clear.

Do I need any special kind of soder? What tools will I need or be useful? Is there any sites that guide you through the whole process of making your own cables? I've fixed cables before, but it was always really obvious with just one loose wire. I wouldn't know what to do from scratch.

And if I make my own cables, will they sound as good as ones store bought?

Thanks for the help.

Be sure to get shielded cable!

BELDEN cable is an industry standard, Get "Switchcraft" connectors.....NO Radio shack! Solder carefully with rosin core solder, test all connections and use a strain relief and or heat shrink tubing to protect the ends from being pulled out.

That should do it....

Get yourself a 30 watt soldering iron/station and a soldering vice (a weighted device with adjustable arms with aligator clips to hold your work while soldering). A rosin core solder 40/60 solder will do fine. And your cables will sound as good and probably better than anything you can buy AND they'll be custom sized to your needs.

Many, many studios use Canare and Mogami. All three (including Belden) are good. Also, Neutrik makes good connectors as does Switchcraft.

Where do you guys buy your cables & connectors? (mogami, nuetrik, etc.)
