OK, thats valid, but let me give you a FACT that NOBODY KNOWS!!
BEFORE you go blaming your dad, MAYBE you ought to hear his side of it, because "I" LEAGALLY, and through the COURTS, fought the CHILD SUPPORT SYSTEM to find out where $55,000 that the system took by wage garnishment, went to cause it sure DIDN"T GO TO MY KIDS...........Where it went is in the POCKETS and CHECKING ACCOUNTS of the goddamned judges and DA's who were splitting it, and if you don't believe me I'll show you the fucking COURT DOCUMENTS

What REALLY pisses me off, is they stole it, LAUGHED at me in court, and continued to rake me over the coals, cheated my kids out of the money that was theirs, and to this day, can NOT BE HELD ACCOUNTABLE for it!!FUCK THE THIEVING CHILD SUPPORT SYSTEM!!! The only way I could get out from under it is to sell my house, and PAY IT TWICE!! So let me give you a little clue my friend. BEFORE you blame your dad, I suggest you LEGALLY and methodically FORCE the DA to disclose to you IN COURT, what the REAL truth is. BECAUSE, under the present laws, FATHERS do NOT have the right to find out where their money is going. ONLY MOTHERS AND CHILDREN have this right. Talk about a charade. The system has a golden goose and they know it. There are a thousand cases on the books right now of fathers who have LOST everything, even though they have paid and paid and paid and paid, to the point they are on the street, have no job, drivers licence suspended, and are THROWN IN JAIL finally. So do yourself, AND your dad a favor. EXERCISE your right to the truth, and FORCE the DA to give it to you IN COURT!!!

You MIGHT be surprized. In my case, MY kids demanded their money without so much as raising an eyebrow to my request to talk to the DA. HA!
Little did they realize, they lost another $55k simply because they had the same opinion as society has. DADs are criminals, and in my kids words, OWE THE MONEY, regardless of the truth. I have finally learned what is important in this world. All my kids wanted was THE MONEY. They didn't want to believe me, they didn't want to FIGHT the DA for it, only use the system to EASILY make me pay it twice. FUCK THIS SYSTEM. I moved out of California because of this thieving system. And if you DON"T believe it exists, YOU are guilty of the same crime.

Rick. you have always done your best to help me out with almost anything i have asked on here i am a young kid, working to make recordings of songs i wrote and i am working to build a real studio outside my house in our poll barn.
i have not had any place close to the gear that some people are flashing around and if you looked at all of it maybe you would get close to 2k worth and thats with guitars amps mics computer and recording software.
all my gear i have earned the money for myself i work in the summertime to have what i get i have used very nice software that was DEMO and said i do not need this, i have an old copy of cooledit pro that i use for everything and its doing just fine. when i first started a year or more ago i had a pile of money i had earned working and i got myself an AT4040 and sonar 2.2 which i still have not used enough.... i have it laying around because my skill was not great enough to use it and i did not research enough to know that my computer was not strong enough to work it i am about to go back and work with it again, i only wish that i had known about this forum when i was starting. i have nice gear because i work hard for it my family maybe on a good year makes $20'000 not a bunch of rich people here i work hard and i earn what i need. that money i spent took me a good long time to earn and i will use that mic for all i can and the software will get used now as well.
if this guy has the use of his dads money for his hobby so much the better gear is a wonderful thing if you can get it but that does not make your recordings any better than mine it just means you used more tools than i did.
ok i have had my rant and rave i should get back to WORK and get my stuff done so i can record some more songs tonight. thanks again to all the guys who have helped me out with my stuff

Not directed at anyone in particular...

But I really don't care who makes what, how old everyone is, nor what gear they have or how they use it. Ultimately, its each of our decisions to utilize what tools we desire and afford ourselves. I've heard nice recordings on Neve's as well as portastudios, so "skill" and "experience" have a lot more to do with it. Same way a carpenter might use a cheap hammer, or a fancy fiberglass-handle hammer. Recording gear (including software) are just tools.

There are only a few things that bother me... bootlegging of software is one. I freely admit I "snarf" off the 'net software I'm considering utilizing in my studio, though if I decide "it's for me" I go and buy it. I've been burned many times over the years purchasing expensive software only to immensely dislike it and become frustrated, and poorer. Just because the salesperson at (insert your favorite retailer here) says a particular software is "wonderful", doesn't mean it is. Just because everyone uses a particular package, doesn't mean its the "best" for my particular needs, or yours. This is why I really believe in the "time trial" or "demo version" concept - it blows up in 10 days or you cannot save anything whatsoever, but still play with it a bit. Of course I like freeware even better, but that's another story.

The other thing that particular irritates me are people who come here looking for free advice yet do nothing to help themselves. I totally appreciate people getting confused and lost reading a lot of the seriously scientific documentation available regarding studio construction, home or pro, but a lot of folks can't even be bothered reading *anything* at all, and expect free help and design work, which this forum really is. Free help and design.

If someone were to come here asking questions, posting even the most gawd-awful design in the world, at least they tried, at least they put effort into it, and started off with something. In forums like this, I respect and appreciate effort a lot more than I do the outcome, and I think that's reasonable and fair.

I see this a lot of times on automotive forums, where I used to participate heavily. Often I'd see questions like "I have X car, and X fuel injection computer, can someone send me the code for my application?". Sure I could, but I won't. I tend to answer questions like "I have X car, and X fuel injection, and I've tweaked the code this way and that, and at 5500 RPM I'm still running too rich, is it a data table problem, or a 'block learn" problem, and here is my data table...."

But that's just me. Again, this post wasn't aimed at anyone in particular.

I dont ever get involved in a spitting match. Its not worth my time. This is different, im giving an opinion. Id give the shirt off my back to anyone that really needed it. That being said, Ive been on many message boards where people can irritate one another. Usually there is more substance to the conflict than misspelling words. To have to share company on a site with a miserable jerk like rick is painfull. My guess is he enjoys it. You have the mouth of the little tenager punks that run around my neighborhood causing trouble. Your not an adult. If you think it makes you a big boy to shell out your opinion laced with such profanity- you may be impressing the other children around here, but my guess is the people who are here for help, or are professionals, or would like to add to the atmosphere, may view you as a maggot. Feel free to change and grow up.

Then tell me why I NEVER see this kind of "net talk" on other recording forums, EVER!!! I'll tell you why. ANYONE with half a brain can see these forums have people that won't waste their time, and moronic kid talk simply would be ignored. I guess that was MY MISTAKE. I should have ignored this thread, as I am already aware it is a waste of time to respond. So excuse me. From now on, I'll let someone else "communicate" on the same level as the poster.

This has been an interesting thread so far. Something tells my I should ignore i but i cant help but say something.

Ill be one to agree with Rick on this one, although i do think he blew his lid a little bit. This is a thread i would usually ignore after the first few seconds of reading the intro post. There was absolutely no point in the post in the first place in my opinion. Listed his gear, asked what else he needed, stated his age and smiled like that really meant something?

Its obvious why this thread has turned into something besides helping him because their is nothing to help him with. Theres not question that could be answered. He has 117 posts so its not like this was his first post. And he said he has been reading the forum 4 hours a day everyday. So what was the point of the question? Its my opinion and assumption that he was just dying to say what gear he had at his age. At least thats the impression i got from it.

If its so important that you stand up for him from Ricks comments to try and respect him why dont you go ahead and answer the questions yourself if you feel its important for him as a newbie. In my opinion ignoring it is no different than saying something about it as far as respect goes. Maybe Rick did get a little carried away, but im sure alot of us get very frustrated at threads like this. And im sure theres many on the forum that have passed by this thread every day seeing Ricks comments that are in agreeance but arnt standing up and supporting him. Thats why it took me so long to post my support.

And im in full agreeance about the communication skills to. I know im definately not perfect in the way that i communicate, and i definately have my days where I mispell words or jumble up sentences (like after a 17 hour session). But when your having to stop and re-read things about 5 times before you understand what the person is saying there really is a problem. Internet slang my ass. Even people who write internet slang write understandable sentences. Internet slang is just shortning of words to make them faster to type. Has nothing to do with structure.

So with all that said, even though Rick is boiling mad at this whole thing and might need to calm down a bit because he might be at a point of blurting things out without control. I dont know. I think he really is helping out this kid by being honest and letting him know the truth. Even after he said something about it this kid still replied in the most confusing posts ive ever read. Kid, its nice you have faith in doing what you wonna do but Rick is right, your not going to make it anywhere if you cant communicate properly. Communication is key in everything you do in life. How are you going to communicate with your boss and clients?

And if your not putting in the effort to figure out what you need for recording yourself, then forget about an audio engineering career all together. No one is goig to tell you how to do it. If you have trully been reading here 4 hours a day then you should have a pretty good idea of what you need. Then we can help guide you through a more specific question when you have options.

Also, if your not tough enough to accept criticism then good luck also. Listen to what people have to say. What they say really might not apply to you, but consider that they do. Rick isnt saying these things for no reason at all. He wouldnt be saying them if he didnt want to help. I wouldnt be saying these things if i didnt want to help. Take it like a man and just try and do better.
