At work last year -- the sound of the drummer falling on a drumstick and breaking his right hand halfway through his bassist recording his scratch track :).

Or you get done with a take, and the cymbals are still ringing, and some dumbass yells out, "That was cool man." Why cant people wait until you hit the stop button, even after you have explained it 20 times?

What about when you're mixing a song and you have to play it over and over and over and over for days sometimes. I'm sure my neighbors must think I'm crazy. Not to mention how it drives the rest of the people in the house nutts also.

Yeah yeah, LMAO for about 3 days i have the song playing loud over and over

what really sux is when i record in my basement my lil sister comes down starts screaming at me to quit down cuz shes trying to watch barney
it sux

Cats in the mix are a given in my "studio". I've even resorted to giving them vocal credits for the track... :)

All my cat does is knock stuff over. She just has to jump on every shelf she can land on and inspect everything. If she weren't so cute I'd feed her to the dog.

Hot air

I always seem to get 'gassy' during tracking sessions, top end if I'm trying to sing, other end if I'm recording an instrument!

...and it's a small room!

OK - That's just TOO much information!

cats, gas, drunks, this thread has it all

this is a great thread.

I seem to be in the same predicament as distortedrumble, lots of traffic.
yes, choppers pulling out of the bar 2 units over...

also, I live on Archer Ave. in Chicago which is known as a "cruising zone".
that means losers driving back and forth down the same 3 mile stretch over and over either on crotch rockets or in hondas with trunks rattling.

no effense to you bikers out there...

...especially since they now know where you live!

Sometimes the outside sounds work. I was at a friends. His studio is in a bedroom. He was doing a vocal take on a beautiful spring day. Forgot the window was open. Just at the end of the take you hear the birds chirping in the background. It sounded so good on the playback we kept it in.

Or like when Im recording a take and my old lady screams down the stairs to me in the basement. "MMAAAATTTTTTTTTTT!!!!!!!!!!!!!" Then after that even when the track where she was screaming on was erased(Protools so there is no bleedthru) I swear I can still hear her screaming...like a ghost."MMMAAATTTTTTTTTTT!!!!!!!!!"

...

Get my acoustic sounding great through the mics..
Get a few practice runs sounding tight..

RECORD

Halfway through the track, I for some reason get the HORRENDUS finger slide noise changing to a first position chord that was uncharacteristically LOUD and Obnoxious.

Re-take

But now.. I'm thinking about NOT making the noise and ruin it because I thinking about making chords and not music. At which point I have to put the guitar down. Take a breath while going to get another beer. Pick up the guitar and just jam out for a few minutes before trying it again.

It's like anything I guess.. Golf, Music, Sex...

If you concentrate on the one detail, it's all downhill.

heres one that came up last night....i had people next door cussing each other out by my window.

or like when you forget to work on your music because you are on a 6hr porn marathon...did I say that out loud!

6 hr porn!?

jeez. i cant believe you can sit there and watch 6 hours of porn!
your sick man, just sick!

pssst.....try the Multi-angled DVD with the Hungarian overdubing...its hilarious

This is a great thread.

I just finished recording a demo for a guy, but we were joking around right before doing a vocal take, so I pressed record a little before he was expecting it. I called him an ass and then pressed record. The track starts off with him saying "that hurts my feelings"....it sounded so freaking hilarious that that's how the demo starts....it was great.

I just realized that this is MUCH funnier on the CD than in this post.....who's the ass? LOL
