FYI - I just came across an ad for Event's new USB interface - they say it is a
-Computer Audio Recording Interface
-Software Control Surface
-Stand-Alone Digital Mixer

you can read about it at http://www.event1.com/ezbus/ez.html
The short spec list says:
-18 analog inputs (14 TRS balanced line inputs, two mic preamps with +48V phantom power, two instrument/line inputs)
-24-bit/96kHz A-to-D and D-to-A conversion
-Optical I/O for ADAT Lightpipe and S/PDIF
-Coaxial S/PDIF input
-Two independently assignable coaxial S/PDIF outputs
-Eight independent analog outputs (Main Mix Output L/R, Aux Output L/R, Sends 1 & 2, Headphone Output L/R)
-24-bit/48kHz recording/playback
-Two independent MIDI inputs
-Word clock output
-Programmable footswitch jack (punch-in, Mix advance, etc.)
-Audio recording via USB on Macintosh or PC computers; USB operation provides full-duplex two channel

What does this last point mean? I think this means it can only record 2 analog tracks at a time but can it only playback 2 at a time? Does that mean if you have a song with 12 tracks that when you want to record another track or mixdown that you can only hear 2 tracks? Can that be true? Sorry if this question sounds naive.

Look forward to your thoughts on the unit.

Cheers!

I was just about to ask that same question.

I saw "2-in/2-out record/playback at up to 24 bit/48 kHz over the USB link".

'2-out' = only two tracks playback simultaneously??

I hope not.

It would be great if someone knew something about this thing.

If I use this thing, will I still need a soundcard??

If anyone's seen reviews for this thing anywhere let us know.

MrLip,

The EZBus plays back eight tracks simultaneously, and records 8 simultaneously.

And it performs the duties of soundcard/interface/mixer/software controller. So you would not need to buy a soundcard.

Trak.

I thought that USB could only handle a maximum of 6 audio streams (2 being outputted), so how is it possible to record 8 tracks simultaneously?
