Event TR8XL vs Wharfedale 8.2 Active

I am looking at getting some speakers mostly for everyday listening to music, and also for mixing when I am doing recording projects. I have HiFi speakers, but this is my first pair of monitors. They will be used at University in my bedroom. I have currently narrowed it down to two speakers:

Event TR8XL Tuned Reference £449 - $842 (The TR5’s didn’t offer enough bass response)

Wharfedale Diamond 8.2 Pro Active £249 - $467 (Seem very good value for money)

Can anyone offer any comments to help me decide between the two? Are the event speakers worth the difference in price considering I am no professional? I want a speaker that will last me, I see it as an investment. If my recording gets serious, I don’t want to have to buy new speakers.

Also, I need a control box to power my AKG k271s and control the speakers levels. I can get the Sampson C-Control for £89 ($167), but can anyone recommend any other ideas?

Any comments or opinions are welcome.
Many Thanks,
Dave
