Can anyone tell me about the EZbus. I've read all the tech stuff on it, but I really want to know 3 things. When using S/PDIF optical, are you controlling 8 channels on the EZbus? i.e., You're sending eight channels into your computer, are you getting eight channels back out to mix on the EZbus. 2) When mixing on the EZbus, are you mixing the software mixer on the computer? I understand about the 3 channels in each of 4 channels, but it really makes no sense unless you've already got a perfect mix coming in.
Last question, well senerio. I've got 8 channels going into the computer under Channels 1, 2, 3 and so on until 8. I send them pre-fader and what will i get on the returns? 8 channels going to the faders from the computer after adding effects or whatever else I may want? Then mixing into the mains? Or can someone just give me just give me all the choices of layouts for the EZbus? Thanks

I don't use the EZ bus but I can answer a couple of these anyway.
The term SPDIf stands for Sony Phillips Digital Interface sna is a two channel digital format. A single rca will carry two channels of signal either in or out of an audio device. The only thing different about the optical version (called tos-link I believe) is the lightpipe interface, the code is all the same.
The EZbus is a hardware mixer as well as a controller for a software mixer. It probably has a mode toggle switch to go from I/O mix mode to MIDI controller mode. So it is both.
