Hey - anyone have any experience with this mic (RE-1000, looks a lot like a 414). I've used em before, but I've never heard them mentioned anywhere. Just curious what anyone else thinks of them.

I've never used them, but I do know that Electrovoice is more noted for their dynamic mics. Unfortunately, I've heard people say that they should stick to them. :D I don't know that re-1000 has a lot of fans.

I'm guessing that since that mic never really seemed to take off...well that may be your answer.

Plus, it's hypercardioid right? They might have done well with a cardioid pattern. Hypercardioid is just too tight for overhead mic'ing etc. in my opinion.

This guy Ron Wikso uses them as overheads...but he also told me the N/D168 was the world's best snare mic and I went out and bought a couple and thought they sucked donkey balls...

Another mic that just never really took off...gee wonder why? ;)

He DID turn me on to the N/D468's for toms and I'm thankful there. Love 'em on that and some guitar cabs, I need to try one on vocals cause it might give a pretty tight track...

Thanks, I guess that's probably true.....if no one talks about a mic it's probably because it's not much worth talking about, though I think there are some great mics that are sleepers. I recorded Cello with a pair of them once, and was very impressed with the tracks, but never heard much about them.
