Hey Guys and the occasional Gal,
As some of you know, I am an American guy that lives in Munich Germany. I am having a ton of problems acquiring gear for less money, because of language problems, and location problems. An example problem is.... I want to buy some gear from a couple of stores in London England. I have no credit card, and since I am technically a “foreigner” here in Germany, I can not get a “checking account.” Plus there are many diffrences between American bank accounts and German. I can’t even get a debit card. All I have is a Money Machine (ATM) card that can ONLY work in machines made by my bank within the city limits of Munich. How in the hell can I buy gear from England? I can’t send a check, I can’t put it on a charge card. And I sure as hell am not going to fly or drive to England just to buy a sound module. What to do???
Now I am writting this thread in hopes that everyone that reads it that comes from Europe, has lived in Europe, or has relatives that live in Europe. etc.... will respond so that I can get a feel for who I need to ask and how I can ask them things. I am relatively new to computer based recording. I have worked strictly in Analogue my whole life until someone FINALLY after kicking a screaming fits, convinced me to give it a go with a computer. So I do have many questions. I try as much as I can to gain this information alone. I look on the internet AS MUCH AS I POSSIBLY CAN.. and I am in a diffrent music store every evening after work asking and asking as many people as I can these thousands of questions. Most Music Store employees do not have a degree in English literature so the last time they were forced to speak english was in their 9th grade foreign language class with old lady Hügendüble. I have gone to every music store I can find in Munich Germany, Salzburg Austria, Kolbermoor Ger, Roseinheim Ger, Bad Aibling Ger, Even a few in Florence Italy and Ansterdam. Amsterdam was the best for english because those Dutch people knwo their english. You gotta love em. I have e-mailed the service support for e-magic so much that they actually know and remember me. I have e-mailed Roland in German and in English, in Germany, Great Britan, and the US. I have officially driven my girlfriend into a mental institution (figure of speach) with all this talk about In-puts, Delta 66 or Creamwear sound cards, 16-20 and 24 bit digital sound with how many KHz etc... All my friends are just like... I will bus it all for you if you will just shut the f*~@k up about it.
Now the reason I am being so petty and listing out all the shit I have done so far, isn’t because I want a gold star for effort, or someone to call me up and stroke my head and tell me how proud they are of my dillegence. I just have been recently accused of being a free-loader that squeezes thsi website for information while I am “too lazy to do my homework myself.” Homework is my fucking middle name. I just need some help from time to time because I am struggling here with my German. not to mention the fact that Munich is abotu as music friendly as a retirement home. Germany in General puts out some awesome music... Berlin, Stuttgart, Hamburg and other NORTHERN Germany towns. Ever heard anything from Munich other than fat ass Bavarian beer drinking songs? Me either! Don’t get me wrong, I love the beer drinking songs and the Fat ass Bavarians. But there simply isn’t much in the way of young music in Munich. Anyway, please do not judge me and tell me that I am lazy. I thought that Americans had that “stick together and help each other out when we need it.” But obviously that was a naive thing for me to think. So can I please have a response from all things European.
Thanks and I appologize in advance if I have sounded too harsh or like some brat,
Mike
P.S. I will post this same post in one or two more catagories as I am not sure what catagory “European involvement” would fall under. So please do not get mad. I know some of you guys don’t like that.
