I am gradually establishing our home studio based around a 24 channel console and 16 trk H/disc recorder.

Apart from adding to our existing mics, WHAT other gear is considered essential for us to be functional, ie; outboard effects, compressers, pre-amps, etc.

Peace..........

WHAT.................3 RNC's? And nothing else.

I heard they were good, but THAT good........hehehe.

Actually Bruce I have a PreSonus ACP-8, 8 channel compressor but I had intended to look closely at the RNC as an alternative for my rack.
What advice on effects, etc do u have....... My view is not to rush into gear that is too lower ended, but to hold off for stuff that will be here for a long time. It is just a matter of getting suggestions for me to consider.

Peace......ChrisO

heh-heh... the RNCs CAN do it all!

Hmmm.... the best way for me to answer that is for you to take a look at the gear list at my studio site - that's pretty much the gear I use, and with the exception of the Behringer Ultramizer (which I've never found a use for yet), it all serves me pretty well.

Thanx Bruce, I will do. Actually I have to admit to having printed a photo of your control room and console out ages ago, mainly cos I had been considering a Mackie 8 buss. I ended up going for a Spirit Studio 8 instead. But looking at your site has given me encouragement and inspiration for the road ahead.

Many Thanks......

Surge protection with battery back-up is a wise investment.

Quality multi-effects unit. If you only have one, the reverb needs to be one you like. Lexicon, Sony, TC Electronic, Yamaha.

Monitors. Event, KRK, Mackie, Roland, etc.

CD Recorder. Either PC-based or stand-alone.

An understanding wife. :)

Don't forget the small but IMPORTANT things to. Such as:

Plenty of balanced patch cables.
A notebook for organizing and keeping records of your tracks
Plenty of recording mediums such as ADAT tapes, cassette tapes, floppys, cdrs etc.
Duct Tape (1 never knows when 1 needs this; it always comes in handy!)

What you need:

- The best reverb you can afford.
- A good delay. (These two typically in the same box)
- an RNC
- A Nord Micro Modular to do weird shit with.

Thats all you need, IMO. :)

So, you wanna get married, huh?

Nubile: Lacking of baby fat...but just barely. Light, barely detectable peach fuzz. Tight as a drum but soft as a peach. Nubile.

Hey, she said she was 21, what am I..a critic? :D

As for essentials...headphones for everybody.

How about patchbays and lots of decent cables and connectors?
