hey all(help gidge)

i just installed my audiophile 24/96 card and it plays back mp3's etc. fine. i will record on it when i get the bugs out but now i'm testing by recording some cassette tapes.

i fire up n-track and i can record(dubbing cassette) to n-track.
but when i try to play it back i get:

"Error opening wave output device. try to execute the full duplex test via the preference/wave device's". the wav test is good!

are there any settings that i am missing?

in the wave device's setting i have:

"1-WDM:Multichannel Delta AP" highlighted

thanks for the help

Gidge will know better than I will, but I think I went through this. Is there a place in Ntrack preferences where you select the playback device?

yea i know where to go to change the wave device's on n-track. i still have them on "1-WDM:Multichannel Delta AP". that one works but one big problem, major distortion. and when it did do a quieter take it had pops and clicks.

i had to change 24bit in n-track to 16 bit.on the demo it only supports 40 seconds. and i just found out the n-track i paid for last oct,2000 just got kicked up. now it's $64.00 for the 24bit. i'm not happy about that. dunno what spoftware i will go with now.
i was never impressed "enough anyway" with n-track. it crashed more than once doing simple cassette dubs. and if it died a coupla time demoing some guitar/vocals songwriting. time to move on.

i also tried goldwave and that worked better. it just had pops and clicks.

i also tried the windows recorder and it was great,no problems.

i need to settle on some reliable/semi-cheap multitrack software.help?

anyway, enough ranting----how do i eliminate the pops and clicks?
thx again

N-Track is Italian for "cheap reliable software"...I promise we can get you going or your money back........:D

If you already have the 16 bit registered, you dont have to pay the full $64......you just have to pay the difference of $64 minus what you already paid.....

pops and clicks could be quite a few things, though Id guess its one of the 3:
driver issues
buffering issues
IRQ issues

also, what version of N-Track do you have...I dont think WDM was supported until 3.0, and 3.0.1 had some updates for multichannel soundcards.....

what you have been going thru is all the pains that lots of people have setting up a PC-DAW...but once you get it tweaked, it is a very rewarding experience.....

whoa, wait up.....my mind takes a few seconds to catch up.....I think you have the wrong drivers installed.....

http://www.midiman.net/driversearch2.php

go here...in the search, choose Delta Series and Windows 2000 and click search...make sure that is the ones you have......

I can be positive that you have the wrong driver because im running 98, but when i set up in prefences, i only have choices of :
Monitor Mixer
Audiophile 2496 H/W IN
Audiophile 2496 S/PDIF IN
ASIO

multichannel drivers would probably be for the 44 and the 66....

ok, i went here. http://www.midiman.net/driversearch2.php

i downloaded the 5.12.1.25 and i can hear my mp3's until i get a major distrtion going.clears up,then distortion,clears up,etc. also when i tried recording guitar/vocals into n-track---same thing.

then i uninstalled those and installed the 5.12.1.9 drivers. they show up with the midiman mixer but i get a"soundcard being used by another source" error. NO SOUND!

i changed pci slots. what else is it? i know most of you with this card have been through this.

1-do i have the right drivers?
2-are there adjustments i need to make in win2k?
3-do i need to delete something out of the registry?

help, thanx again

I had the exact same thing happen to me - what I think I narrowed it down to was that I had installed my soundcard (a st-audio c-port) AFTER I had installed n-track (I had been messing around with n-track bringing old 4-track cassettes over to .wav's), and I would get the same error - the duplex test would work fine but I would get an error that that it couldn't open the wave output device. I know I had it set right in the Wave Devices section too. The solution I came up with came out of frustration - I re-installed n-track and it "reset" all of the wave devices in n-track and now it works fine.

Also, n-track 3.0 has been alot more stable for me than any other version, so give it a shot. Hope this helps!

thanks Heserosfer, i got it to work but i get some major distortion still. and i am using the n-track 3.0. i also get hell raising distortion on regular mp3 playback also. it's intermitent. sounds fine 10 seconds sounds like crap 2 minutes. same thing over and over.
