What do you think is the best bass ever? I personally think the Fender p-bass is, but some of my friends that play bass say that nothing beats a Rickenbacker, and then other people say its a sin to play anything but an ernie ball. What are your thoughts?

Apples and oranges. I have a Rick and a P-Bass and they have two totally different personalities. The P-Bass is warmer fuzzier tone where the Rick has more of a piano type attack. I like to play the Rick more but that's just my style. They both kick ass.

I have a Fender P-bass, a Peavey fretless, and a Robelli acoustic/electric. I have played a fair amount on Yamaha's, Carvin's and Alembics.

Personally I prefer the Fender as an all around package of sound, feel and quality, but I think your going to get many different opinions here because with quality instruments, they all have their own strong points. Also, people will tend to favor what they own and say they think they sound the best compared to other basses they have heard just because they are used to "their" sound.

My fav bass is the Gibson Grabber. But, they don't make them any more. :(

Dear Firebird - maybe there's a reason they don't make the Gibson Grabber any more!

;)

Got to agree with the Music Man Stingray - worked with a guy who ran one through a Trace Elliott rig and sounded wonderful on everything.

Im voting for the Stingray as well. I feel I should mention G&L basses as well though. Some of the nicest sounding bass Ive ever heard came out of a G&L L-2000.

I have had my fair share of basses in the past, a couple of fenders, a sound gear... but i just recently bought the bass i have always wanted ... by stingray. I have a friend who plays a ricenbaker(spelling???) and he loves it.
Its really alot of a style thing... how you play, the way you sound ect...
What someone posted befor... apples and oranges.

I'm not much of a bass player, but I do like a good axe. The Fender P is a standard. Can't go wrong with one. Hell, I even have one. My ex-roomie gave it too me when he bought a Rickie. I loved that Rickie. It just had more bite and grit and good also be nice and soft. I'm also a huge Ernie Ball fan. I own a Ernie Ball guitar and plan on owning 2 or 3 more. I have played a Stingray and loved it. Ernie Ball is top notch first rate Grade A stuff in both workmanship and sound.

I am an Ernie Ball advocate. I absolutely love their stuff. I own a Sterling, which is the best feeling bass I've ever played. For sound I tend to prefer a Jazz Bass though. I've never really liked the sound of a P-Bass or Rickenbacker though.

I *love* my two stingray 5s (1 fretless), but do think they're incredbly overpriced nowadays.. +€3000 seems a wee bit too much for a factory-made instrument.
