I'm new to homerecording and I'm trying to get information on what equipment to purchase. I have a amd k6-2 processor with 10gb hard drive, sblive soundcard, cakewalk pro audio 9. Two shure sm-58 mikes. I am planning on purchaseing a multitrack. What do you think about a korg d8 or a tascam 424 III? I have a memorex crw 1622 with eash cd creator deluxe 3.5. My keyboards are suzuki sp-8 and roland jv30. Do you think that I can get a good clear cd from this setup or is that a pipe dream. Do I need to buy a mixer or preamp with this setup. So many questions, from such a dumb person. Dragon take me away.

If you've already got the computer and Cakewalk, why get a multitrack? You can do it all with the computer.

Yes, you're going to need either a mixer or preamp(s) to get the mics up to line level for recording.

dobro is right...don't worry about a multi tracker unless you want it to be easily portable.

A good mixer and you're on your way, that way you can spend the extra money on other necessary equipment
