I've got Cakewalk, but now what equipment do I need to record digital audio like a band. Obviously microphones, but also how do I split the channels to left and right when routing to my computer? I have a Sound Blaster Platinum sound card.

Don't we all wish that it was just like that...have a puter, buy the software, bam instant studio...sorry thats not all there is to it... For your current setup...get a good live stereo mix through your mixer. Use your main L/R output use trs 1/4"cable/connectors and input it into you soundcard, get the adaptors if the card doesn't accept 1/4"trs, some do and some don't.
You won't have any mixing/editing capabilties of each instrument.

Or... do each instrument...one at a time.

If you want to record the band to separate tracks at the same time you'll need a more expensive soundcard with multiple inputs.

This way you can record each input to a separate track in Sonar.
(Of course you need a really fast computer to do it.)
