You guys on here have already been helpful. My buddy and I wanted to do our own stupid podcast/radio internet show for our friends and family (at first) and you helped us figure out a way to do that even though we are in different cities.

Anyway, I have about $250-300 and I was wondering what equipment any of you would recommend for setting up a radio show. I did some research and found a good microphone for voice recording. The AKG D770, I think.

But now I suppose I need a preamp/mixer, right? And do I need a new soundcard? I am working off of a 4 year old toshiba laptop, which still runs great, but has some Yamaha sound card in it. Should I bother investing in a new sound card?

Is that all? I will be recording in my home office, where it is fairly/very quiet, with decent acoustics (I think).

I know this is all pretty basic stuff, so I appreciate your patience and help. Any basic recommendations for a preamp/mixer, mic stand and a sound card would be fantastic.

Thanks, everybody.

ART makes some nice inexpensive pre-amps. Also, you probably want to invest in an interface other than the one built into the laptop. They are not really studio quality. There are many inexpensive ones on the market.

Go to musiciansfriend.com and check out what's available. Then go to Ebay and see if you can get what you need cheaper.

Laptop soundcards are generally not so hot - size can matter - & at 4 years old that comes into the equation too. You can buy an external soundcard, or even one of those dinky little USB input/quasi soundcards to help out. Suss out eBay.
Preamp is pretty much a given as you'll be use a mic & hope to have reasonable qality. - Try using a little mixer with a reasonable pre built in that way you've knocked over two issues.

Google podcast equipment or podcast gear. There are lots of cool setups out there, from basic to advanced, and people who love to talk about them.
