Thank you, Black Spy, for directing that to matic. ;)

I was going to say to matic that if cronos doesn't know about the "criminal activity", don't tell him/her in the forum (now what you PM or email is your choice).

cronos, if you could provide that information it would be very helpful.

You might also want to let us know your level of production skills.

You might also want to download demo versions of...

REASON

FRUITY LOOPS

ACID

SOUNDFORGE

SONAR

CUBASE

I'm sure that other members of HR.COM will offer some more demo program options. :)

My budget [sic] is about 4k$

You could make a pretty good setup, if you go computer based.

computer $700 (w/512MB RAM, 200GB 7,200rpm's, and Hyper Threading)
512MB RAM $50 (to make the RAM in your comp equal 1 gig)
19' video monitors (2) $200
video card $100 (dual output)
Alesis M1 Actives MK II $400 (reference monitors)
KRK V8's $500 (reference monitors)
2nd HD @7,200 rpm's $60
Akai MPD 16 $100 (look on EBAY [these are the pads from the MPC's])
Tascam FW-1884 $1300 (U can add more physical tracks as your needs grow)
M-Audio Radium 61 $200 (keyboard controller)

So, that puts you at about $3,600.

You'll still need to get the programs that you want.

The above setup should keep you satisfied for a while.

The H/T of the computer will greatly help with work load and the speed of the programs. Most new audio programs utilize Hyper-Threading technology.

You will have a greater visual video desktop space with the use of the dual 19" monitors.

The added video card will ease the computers load by doing some of the processing on the video card itself.

The use of two Hard Drives can be utilized by having one of the HD's for your programs and the 2nd HD for song storage.

The added RAM should help you to equal a giga byte of Random Acess Memory (which should be more than enough for you, at this point).

The monitors I selected for you will definitely let you hear what you think you are hearing. And you will have two differwnt references in your studio space. Plus, the KRK V8's will wonderfully translate the low-end frequencies.

The Tascam interface will give you more that enough IN's/OUT's in multiple formats. AND.... you can add more physical tracks as you get the money for them (eight at a time [the expanders are called PE-8's]).

I also added a couple of midi controllers. I listed the MPD-16 so you could "flip' your beats manually. And I added the Radium 61 so you could play some melodies on/with your tracks.
