Is it common to change eq on instruments through out a mix?Such as when other instuments come into or go out of the mix.

Example: Electric guitar is fighting with the bass for low end frequencies, so you roll it off. BUT, the song starts out with a guitar intro. It's common to boost a solo'ed guitars lower EQ, then cut it once the band kicks in etc. Food for thought....
