Whats a good EQ for

H
M
L

im looking to record something with the same tone as bands such as

black dahlia murder
brign me the horizon
necrophagist

or just generally heavy metal stuff

It pretty much depends on your mics and recording technics. There is no way around listening to it while you adjust the EQ.

hi,
I find that
H=0
M=0
L=0
works a treat!!:p

or, on a graphic equaliser....
a great big 'smiley face' works pretty bloody good too!....seeing as though you're into heavy metal 'n stuff.
There's no need to trust your ears on this stuff...it's all visual.

:p:D:)

Yeah the smiley face EQ is pretty much a standard, and it looks cool because it's a smiley face, so how it effects the sound is pretty much irrelevant...

I put the smiley faces on all my tracks... H, M, and L.

Well, unless it's a sad song. Then you could...

(Sorry, I couldn't resist.) :D

James, What these guys are trying to say is, there is no way for us to tell you that. EQ is something that must be done by ear. It is like spices on food, clothing on people, or decorations at Christmas time. It's all different everywhere, every time.

Turn the knobs, pay close attention, and YOU decide.
