I have been using the sweepable mid on my Korg d16 to make some of the EQ cuts and boosts that the Sonusman suggested. This works great, but I can only manipulate one frequency. My question is - how do most people physically EQ for mixdown? Do they use a graphic equalizer to make cuts/boosts? Do most recording software packages have "virtual" graphic equalizers to do this from the DAW?

I have an old two channel Electrovoice-Tapco equalizer with 10 frequencies per channel. I was using it at one time for live sound. Will this work for mixing or will it be too noisy? How would I hook it up?

Thanks.

Most software packages that I have seen have EQ FX built in. Typically these are parametric EQ's - sweepable over 4 seperate bands.

If not built in, they can be purchased (or even found through freeware) in the form of DirectX or VST plugins (most recording software supports one or the other).

parametric and graphic eq

i use parametric eq for mixdown (DSP-fx) and graphic eq for mastering (Red Roaster) most of the time.
