Can anybody name some brands of mixers which have an EQ bypass? I've heard of that and think it would be especially helpful to me.

So do Mackie 8-buss desks.... Ghosts too , I think...

That small alesis 16 channel board I think has an eq bypass. It is like $200-300 on ebay. Good sound quality, and direct outs on every channel make it a great small recording board.

what is the advantage of having an eq bypass when you can just put the channels to 0? just to have the signal going through less stuff in the console?

so you can compare what its sounds like with eq and without and make sure it sounds better lol

lol I think he knew the answer to that and just wanted to show us that he has the same avatar as the guy above him....j/k

A bypass takes the EQ circuit out of the signal path - setting EQ controls to 0 doesn't....

The audio Golden Rule is always minimal signal path - if something doesn't need to be in the chain, take it out completely...

And I know that there are guys here that have 4 or 5 pieces of rack gear, and they chain them up in series and use them for everything they want to record, whether the gear is actually being used or not.... that's a very quick way to acheiving the dirtiest, noisiest tracks!

I don't think I've ever seen an EQ (or compressor) without a bypass switch

On many boards, there is no eq bypass. We're not talking about stand alone eq's or compressors.

hahahahaha okay sorry, yeah i dont have an analog EQ so i don't think about it in analog terms. I "bypass" the eq digitally all the time :D.

99 % of the time I'll take the fastest and shortest route to Tape (Pro Tools) when tracking. If I'm using an outboard Pre, I'll patch straight from it into the MTR returns on the patchbay, totally bypassing the console.

Most Analog consoles should have an EQ bypass switch. The less stuff you run your signal though, the better and cleaner the quality. Some analog warmth is good, but too much can really dirty your signal up.

Does anyone happen to know if an A&H Mixwizard has EQ bypass?
