OK...this is a total newbie question....I was wondering if altering a sounds EQ could actually change its KEY in anyway.

for instance...if I play a C4 note on the piano and I alter the EQ of the sound it produces dramatically will this change the Key in anyway?

nope, it will not change your note. just the frequencies will change

No -as the guy above mentioned, and I think you mean PITCH, not KEY...

A single note has a pitch, not a key...

EQ just makes certain pitches stronger or weaker. It doesn't shift them. Adjusting pitch or speed will shift them, but not EQ. EQ can cause some phase issues, and if you make certain things stronger than the fundamental you can cause a perceived shift to one of the harmonics, which might be something other than an octave interval. But not the only cause of perceived shifts.

thanks for your help on understanding this fella! much appretiated!
