has anyone tried one or know anythign about how it is?

these guitars look bad ass and considering its only 350, im considering, just wondering if anyone has tried the thing.

thanks alot!

Flying Vs look cool, but in general they're kinda uncomfortable to play. Epiphone makes decent mid-line guitars, though, so I can't imagine it's too bad.

V's are one of the more comfortable guitars to play. doesn't make you slouch either.

I really don't like epiphone but it's just me. I'd rather get Jackson or ESP Vs.

uhhhh.......i'd definitely say not comfortable....very cumbersome body for me

maybe you guys don't know how to play a flying V sitting down. :p

Classical style?

That's how I play my Washburn Dime model, and it's totally comfortable...

this is how you play it. actualy the old lady's holding one of hendrix's guitars.

But a Flying V is all about rock & roll and wicked stage poses, not sitting down! Like this guy....

I guess it all depends on your tastes. I personally don't like the flying V or explorer body styles and prefer the more "traditional" lines of the Les Paul or Strat bodies. Different strokes for different folks...

As to the Epiphones, from the factory they are reasonable guitars, but nothing special. I've played Epi Les Pauls in music stores before and was less than impressed, but a few upgrades can take them a long way. I bought Hard2Hear's Epi Les Paul that he had customized (Burstbucker pickups, RS wiring upgrade, Grover tuners) and DAMN this thing sounds good! The mushy sound of the original Epi had left, and in its place was a nice clear, hot and edgy tone.

I picked up a Epi Korina V at MARS Music a few years ago while they were still going strong. I picked it up as a joke. But I have to admit it was one of the best playing guitars I have played in my life. That sounds funny coming from someone who generally hates imports and cheap guitars, but it was true. That guitar was so easy to play I was doing ten finger shredding and I am in no way a shredder. It sounded pretty good stock, too. Of course, I had the gain cranked on a Mesa, but it sounded pretty good.

I am still amazed at how easy that guitar was to play. I proably should have just bought it. It may have been a one in a million. Who knows.

And I'm glad you still like that Epi Paul. It was a really great one, too! :) If you ever get rid of it, I get first dibs! :D

wow ... i never knew Gary moore played a V ...

hey, i just got a 84 gib flying V off of ebay for real cheap (w/ EMGs 81s and 89s :D ) ... and played it yday for the first time ...

I was surprised how handy a V is ... my lower forarm aligns perfectly with the upper contour of the V ... for a nice "its part of my body" feeling ... i seem to have seen this on explorer models as well

also I am suffering from the "flagpole syndrome" (holding the neck very vertical) and the V helps there as well ...

ohhhh did I mention that a set of EMG thru a cranked MIG tube head sounds wicked (even when missing the 2nd and 6th string  )

There's pretty much no body style I hate more than a V, except maybe a Warlock. But- the mid priced Epi's are really pretty good guitars. They are vastly improved by changing out the pickups and the tuners. I have a seriously tricked out Epi Les Paul Custom that is one of my most favorite axes.-Richie

awesome guys!
so get some new pick ups and ill be set for an amazing guitar if i need it?
what kind of pickups would you reccommend for a pop punk guitar player playing through a tube head with some gain on it? a gt-500h crate half stack

if you dont wanna spend a great deal of money but still have excellent PUPs, Bill Lawrence (2-3months wait $50ish) or Kent armstrong ($40ish)

if you want to go the whole 9 yrs ... EMGs 81/85 or 81/89 combo

cheers

For what I do, I use classic 57's, but I'm no punker. For pop/punk, my choice would be Seymour Duncan SH-4 on the neck and SH-14 on the bridge, with coil taps. That combo will produce almost any sound you could ask for.-Richie

are these hard to install at all?
could i newbie like myself take out the old pick ups and put these in?

That would depend on your understanding of the electronics, and how good you are with a soldering iron. Personally, if I had any doubts, I'd have a pro do it. If you use coil taps, the pots have to be replaced with push-pull versions.-Richie
