I walk the line
Has anybody tried this?

I know it would have to be low volume, but that's what I want anyway.

I've got the head, just no cab yet.

Through a single 12" I can get a very old school tone - plenty of definition, cool overdriven tone, but not a very deep bass sound. Works great blended with a DI.

yep, like with guitar, i've run a '71 pbass through mine, running into the 8in Weber in my champ. sounds great with the exception of no real lows to speak of. i bet it'd sound pretty bomb through a 15 or a sub.

cheers,

Somewhere, I've got an old 15" Jensen out of a late 60's? Bassman or BandMaster. I need a cab for that sucker!

I've also got a GT Brick, so it will be interesting to hear them blended.

Now it's my turn to drool!

What finish and pickguard?
it's our bass player's--the same guy who owns that Twin i was talking about. he bought it when he was a teen (in the 70s) and it was "just an old bass no one wanted". it's black and has a non-original pickguard on it--it's kinda like a white "antigua" (white to variegated greyscale out to the edges) pickguard. i don't know what to call it, really, but it looks cool and it's been on there since he bought it.

he said that when he bought it, the guy told him it was a 73 body (and the postion of the thumb rest supports that, but i haven't been inside it to look at the pickups or pots) with a either a 67 or a 69 neck (i haven't had it apart to confirm that either and he can't remember which he said it was). we've always just kinda "halved" it and considered it a 71. :D :P

fender did that a lot (combining bodies with old necks and parts they had lying around), especially with their basses. and i suspect fender wasn't (and isn't) alone in that practice. given that the body looks like a 73, maybe we should call it a 73, but eh *shrug*.

anyway, it's got a maple neck and fretboard and has the absolute roundest, fattest bottom i've ever heard on a bass. the mids are nice as well, but it's just got that motown sound. it's all over my recordings, but i've never been able to truly capture its tone. i think i need a REDDI. :D

and the neck plays like a dream--it's really been babied (and mostly sat in the case). he knows i've got dibs on it if he ever decides to sell it (instead of passing it on to his kids once they get out of their "irresponsible teen" years). in the meantime, i've got it on more or less "permanent loan" provided i bring it every week for practice. i can handle that. ;)

cheers,
wade
