heres my problem...im having data transfer problems on a maxtor 7200 rpm 40 gig hard drive... so , me being smart :) , i went into the drive propertires in the device manager to enable dma...but much to my surprise , there was no dma box to check!!! the "sync data transfer" check box was there though , and it was checked...could that be the issue? ive installed the same exact make and model on another gateway system with windows 98 a few days before and the option to enable dma was there... i dunno , what gives? any ideas?

thanks..

If it's got a built in or add on ATA66/100 controller and you properely installed the drivers for it than you won't have a DMA box. You should also see another device category in device manager, scsi controllers or mass storage devices. The drive will also be named under disk drives, i.e. Quantum AS or Maxtor whatever, instead of Generic Disk Type 80.
