I used the 1820 recently, and all I can say is WOW.

I had an Aardvark Q10, and this unit IMHO is as good, if not better than.

The converters are VERY nice, pre's clean as hell, anf for $399...this is a no brainer.

I heard someone say this was the best under $1,000...I'll have to second that, I have'nt heard anything like this before.

You try the 1820 or the 1820M? Inquiring minds want to know!

Dooh! answered my own question. At $399 it's the 1820.

Sorry.

Just out of interest, what's the sync daughter card?

Oh well... (sigh).

Newegg.com has WinXP Home for really cheap, like $90. Trust me, it's worth the upgrade.

I hate Win98SE.

I LOVE mine also! I love the fact you can plug it straight in with a mic, and the pre amp is NICE quality.

Selling my extra one for 350 !! you can email me for details....

Would that choke a PIII, 600 mHz, 192K RAM system?

I installed XP on a friends PII 500 with 256M Ram and it seems to be running o.k. Mind you he is more limited to the amount of tracks, effects etc that he can run .

If you decide to run Windows XP, you might find the following website helpful for getting resources back.

http://www.musicxp.net/

Is the 1820 (or 1820M) able to use onboard effects processing for 24/96 or 24/192 resolutions? I thought I read somewhere that it doesn't, only for 24/48 (or something along those lines) or lower.

That's exactly right. no on board effects at 96 or 192 khz...

Not that I know of. There was mention of driver update for such when I talked to support....but I wouldn't hold my breath.

I agree...2 of these things would kick proverbial ass.

I asked Emu if the 1212 cards could be doubled up....share FX resources....(kinda like DSP factory).

He said he could not comment on it, because it was not functional in its current state. However, they DID say that the card is designed to handle that, and they DO see the need for it.

Hmmm.

Is this Emu 1820 sound card better than the M-Audio 1010LT?

I know the 1010LT is much cheaper, so I'd assume this ones better. Any known probs/bugs with either?
