Hello... Can you HELP ME! I have now been up for abot three days trying to get my head around this new card of mine the EMU 0404.. I know its a newy so technical expertise is at a premium.. any help would be gratefully received.
I installed the card no problems encountered.. It plays all my previously recorded stuff (all formats) beautifully without issue.. Heres the problem kids.. Its not recording !.. not a tinle of sound is being sent to my recording software (COOL EDIT PRO).. and I am jiggered if I dont know why.. Now.. I can "see" the sound going into my card.. its monitoring it in the patchmix (?) or whatever that screen is.. and cool edit pro has been told to use the device for playback and recording as per options/settings device/order.. you know the one.. nothing is muted on the card or in the windows sound settings .. the signal is going in OK but how do I tell cool edit to find it.. The sound going in is not going to my monitors either.. All I wanna do is use Cool Edit to record some guitar (or whatever) on say track one from the L input and say track 2 on the right input.. and do this so I can record two independent tracks simultaneously and independently.. But at the moment I cant even get it to record at al. I even tried using windows sound recorded to the same effect - zilch.. I'm not a stupid man but as you may have guessed I aint a techie - I'm just some guy who writes music and wants to record with some friends you know - Anyway if anyone know ANYTHING please let me know - as the band are starting to get seriously distracted and un-fortunately for us - I seem to have been nominated as the brains of the outfit..
best wishes Jim X

So...the stuff that was posted in the other thread wasn't helpful? :P

You need _insert_ the ASIO and WAVE inputs into the individual channels in the patchmix. It should be very well documented in the documentation. The fact that you haven't mentioned anything like "insert" or "send" suggests that you haven't wrapped your mind around this concept yet. It's very different from other sound cards, but it works nicely, and if you want to stick with the E-mu, you'll have to figure it out. You just right click on the channel insert section, you insert a send to a host input (like WAVE or ASIO), and then the stuff sent on that physical channel is also routed to the software that uses that WAVE or ASIO channel as input. If you have a serious problem figuring this out, have you tried calling Emu? It's a free call, and the guys on the other end ain't bad.

Recording two analog inputs simultaneously...

Hello Jim,

Though very powerful, the PatchMix mixer takes some getting used to. To record two seperate analog inputs in a program like Cool Edit Professional (now Adobe Audition) you will need to do the following:

1. Find the "PCI Card In L" strip in the PatchMixer application. Adjust the "PAN" knob all the way to the LEFT so that it reads "-90".

2. Find the "PCI Card In R" strip in the PatchMixer application. Adjust the "PAN" knob all the way to the RIGHT so that it reads "90".

3. In the PatchMixer's "Main Inserts" section right click your mouse pointer on one of the insert slots. A menu will pop up. You will then want to select "Insert a Send" and then you should choose "HOST WAVE L/R". If this is ghosted, it means that it's being used on another strip. If this is the case, find it and drag and drop it into above mentioned insert slot.

4. Make sure that your 0404 is the selected recording and playback device in Cool Edit Professional. You should now be able to receive a signal(s) from your inputs(s).

5. In Cool Edit Professional Multitrack mode, you will need at least two tracks. Click on the "Rec" button for one of the tracks and specify "E-DSP Wave" and "Left Channel". On the other track specify "E-DSP Wave" and "Right Channel".

You should now be able to record both analog inputs simultaneously.

I have provided you with a very basic session that contains the above settings at:

http://www.kordak.net/0404/CoolEdit Recording Session.session

Simply right click the link and save the session file somewhere on your system.

Hope this helps, :D

Grigorios, thanks for providing the sessions file. I downloaded the session settings you recommended for Cool Edit just to see if it would help my no sound through the speakers situation. I get the light meters going in the Main Mix area and the Wave L/R strip, but still no sound out of the speakers.
