Emu 0404 and CEP 2.0?

Is anybody familiar with the Emu 0404 PCI sound card? I just bought one yesterday and am having terrible luck getting it to work with Cool Edit Pro. Any input/advice you can give will be appreciated...

It seems like it's designed especially for Cubasis although it claims to be compatible with assorted applications. It's got 2 INs and 2 OUTs and shouldn't be much different than a standard soundcard such as SoundBlaster Audigy or any basic internal card with 2 channels. However, it's driven by some sort of ASIO drivers (which are new to me) and some mixing console interface that seem to be at odds with Cool Edit Pro. CEP, according to my sources, is an exclusively WDM-driven application. I don't really know what that means other than CEP doesn't acknowledge the identity of the inputs on the Emu card. I used to be able to record 2 channels (L and R) simultaneously with my sound blaster and with this thing I can only get one mono sinal into cool edit after haphazardly screwing with the mixing interface. I'm really frustrated and may just return the friken thing.

Any luck with EMU? What do people use as sound cards/input devices for Cool Edit??

Hi! I was thinking you probably didn't get any replies because no one is using the 0404. I'm not either, but I was seriously looking because I wanted midi and a low price.

You know, CEP is kinda famous for being able to work with just about any soundcard. So, are you saying that in CEP, you went to Options/Device Properties and your Emu wasn't there to select on the Wave In and Wave Out tabs? I would suspect, if that's the case, that something went wrong while installing the Emu.

It might help to get more response if you give more info, like your computer operating system, CPU speed, amount of hard drive and RAM memory, is there anything else on your PCI bus, etc. How did it go when you installed it?

Too bad it's not working, I'd like to hear about how it sounds and functions. Maybe if you add more info you can attract some help! -A
 
CEP/AA does not work with ASIO drivers, if that soundcard doesn't have a WDM/MME driver it won't work with CEP/AA.

CEP/AA should work with any standard windows soundcard/diver, ASIO is not a windows standard driver.

an M-Audio Audiophile or Echo Mia (PCI) should do the job for you.
 
Hi Stryyder! I thought I had read that the Emu 0404 comes with both ASIO and WDM drivers when I was shopping it. So I went and checked to be sure, and it does. Should work with CEP/AA. BTW, I'm noob here- Been reading more than posting- Thanks for all your contrib's!!! :D
 
roberts. ..in cool edit try this.
go into the driver set up for cool and the emu drivers will be listed.
look for something like wave in and wave out or wdm in and out.
if you tell me what cool shows for drivers i'll comment and suggest.
cool should work with it.
 
I am in the process of getting a 0505, I noticed alot of people were having issues setting it up. I saved this and will post it. I haven't confirmed if it will work though.


Though very powerful, the PatchMix mixer takes some getting used to. To record two seperate analog inputs in a program like Cool Edit Professional (now Adobe Audition) you will need to do the following:

1. Find the "PCI Card In L" strip in the PatchMixer application. Adjust the "PAN" knob all the way to the LEFT so that it reads "-90".

2. Find the "PCI Card In R" strip in the PatchMixer application. Adjust the "PAN" knob all the way to the RIGHT so that it reads "90".

3. In the PatchMixer's "Main Inserts" section right click your mouse pointer on one of the insert slots. A menu will pop up. You will then want to select "Insert a Send" and then you should choose "HOST WAVE L/R". If this is ghosted, it means that it's being used on another strip. If this is the case, find it and drag and drop it into above mentioned insert slot.

4. Make sure that your 0404 is the selected recording and playback device in Cool Edit Professional. You should now be able to receive a signal(s) from your inputs(s).

5. In Cool Edit Professional Multitrack mode, you will need at least two tracks. Click on the "Rec" button for one of the tracks and specify "E-DSP Wave" and "Left Channel". On the other track specify "E-DSP Wave" and "Right Channel".

You should now be able to record both analog inputs simultaneously.
