Logic 5.0 is PC compatable. You can use virtually any soundcard with it.

It depends on the user really. If you think about it, all recording software basically does the same thing just a different user interface. Logic is one of the better sequencers out there. I've been using it for 6 years...hence my comment above my avatar.
I dont think at this point I would use anything else because I have learned it well. For a complete newbie it may take several months to get deep into the program and years to perfect it, but for general use...a couple weeks.

what is a sequencer?
is that just the visual aid for tracking?... break it down for a drunken laymen

other questions about logic

Newbie here with a bunch of questions about logic on the mac platform. May I post questions here or another thread. New to BBs protocol and all.

Nevermind that....German engineers tend to use strange names for audio apps.

midi ports, SPDIF and stuff

Thanks stealthtech. First, it may help to know how I got here. I use a Roland xp80 to program drums, keys, sometimes bass. I then record tracks into my Fostex vf80 from the roland. I then come back and track guitars, bass and vocals. The vf80 didn't come with CD burner so I needed a way to get the files into my Mac G4 (933mhz/250mbRAM/40gigHD) to burn CD's. On another forum it was recommended that I get a sound card with SPDIF. That's why I bought the Audiowerk 2 card which came with Micrologic AW 2 3.7.4.

First point of confusion - it asks that I set my modem port or printer port as my midi port. Why would I use either as a midi port when i intend to use the sound card.

Next - The reason I bought the card in the first place was to send tracks/files from the fostex vf80 to the mac via SPDIF for CD burning.

From the manual it says I can hook my Roland up to the Mac to import files using midi out/midi in ports. The midi style hook ups have to be converted to the RCA style connectors of the sound card. Is this hardware something I can get at radio shack? Are there similar connector conversions that would hook guitars up to the sound card to track guitars straight into the computer?

Finally I assume the spdif connector to be like a regular RCA (stereo) cord/jacks, but nowhere in the manual does it tell me how to deal with this SPDIF info once I am able to hook the vf80 and Mac together.

Anyone else use Audiowerk 2 with a Mac and stand alone DAW? Any tips techniques would be appreciated.

Should be a cinch.
SPDIF out of Fostex to SPDIF input of AW2.
Micro Logic should have a driver page where you can switch to use digital inputs.
You will not need any midi functions to do that transfer. Nor will you tie to any midi ports for digital.
