When I go on a gig and it is not possible to bring my whole truck load of live ADAT recording gear, I used to bring a stereo mic and a little "Grateful Dead" type bootlegging DAT deck.
Not any more! I found this nifty little USB 24bit interface from Emagic that when combined with my notebook totally replaces the DAT deck. So now I pack up the little Sony super thin computer, the USB interface, a mic preamp, mic and cables and I am all set to record a show. No more dumping the DAT into the computer for mastering!
It was really easy to set up. It comes with MME, WDM, ASIO, and Logic Engine drivers. I also has 6 channels of output if you want to use it for surround mixing. It comes in a nifty little leatherette traval case and is powered off the USB bus. So far, I really like it.
