hey guys -- wassup?

just finished a new track. Its inspired by my recent trip to Beijing and is essentially electronica with an Asian flavor. I sampled like 4,000 year old Chinese zithars and guitars (from CDs which I've brought back from China) and applied all sorts of fun processing to it (time-streching, pitch-shifting, de-noising, etc). Here it is:



Plz let me know what you'all think, Ok? There's some residual noise when a zithar solo comes up (despite de-noising); hope that doesn't bother too much.

Interesting piece (translation: I'm not that into the electronica thing).

One thing I noticed about the mix overall is it seems the bottom is a bit lacking in most of it. There are times when certain sounds fill it in, but I think there should be something in the percussion down low that's more of a constant.

Does that make sense?
 
makes total sense! My previous mixes were a bit muddy coz I had too much going on at the lower frequencies, so this time I put in less at the bottom end and applied a 90Hz cut-off filter. Maybe I should add some more. Thanks for your comments!
 
cool piece.. I think it sounds good except some of the top end of the drums distracts me.. maybe it's the reverb on them.. not sure.. just preference though.. great job making your own samples! enjoyed it..

You're right, there's some excessive reverb on the drums. I wonder where that comes from :confused:
 
What a great use of styles. I like the far east sound mixed with the modern electronica vibe. Very Aphex sounding tune.

As for the mix, the elements blend very good together, the only thing that sticks out to me is the cymbal swell that you throw in every 8 measures or so... it could come down just a tad IMO.

I've never listented to the Aphex Twins, but I heard they're doing similar stuff. Time for me to get some of their CDs, I guess :D
