ok...so ive been looking into getting an alesis D4 on ebay for about $120 or so. Then makin my own triggers. I was wondering how good this will sound and such...cause i figured its a cheap alternative, and i cant really make alot of noise, but i want to try to get alot better at drums. So i was wondering if anyone knew how good it would sound, or if they have any samples. Thanks.

Your electronic drums will only be as good as the module. The Alesis is a pretty good one for the money. Share with us how you plan on building the triggers.

The D4 is not a bad module (I have kept mine and still use some sound (even though I have "better" modules) - certainly for practise it will be fine.

We once mounted triggers on a Remo practice pad kit and triggered a D4 and it tracked surprisingly well.

well...i was reading several ways to make the triggers...i think im just gunna go get some radio shack piezos and put them onto a metal plate and put foam over the oppisite side...i dont know, that was just a thought. If anyone can think of a better way to do it for cheap please tell me. Thanks.

I would be very concerned that a metal plate would not allow enough vibration for the trigger to work well (not to even mention the trama on you body from hitting metal!!!! - the metal can't absorb the impact and the vibration will simply move right back up your arm)

You would be much better off buying some low cost practise pads.

One of the guys on this site has suggested plastic frisbees to trigger cymbal sounds - they may work for drums (on maybe even tupperware containers - anything but metal.
