Anyone demo'd this thing yet? I believe it just started shipping from Electro Harmonix May 9th.

I'm excited about it, though I haven't heard it yet. Here's why: it seems to be the first Tube Mic Pre in my budget range (200 bucks) that isn't a "starved plate" design. The specs say that 200 volts go to the tubes. Hot stuff.

Looks promising :) I've always liked EH, they make some killer FX pedals. The box looks like all their other stomp boxes, which looks cheap on a preamp, to me, at least. But hey, if it works, it works :)

they started shipping now?

where's that option? where can we get it?

their website is pretty neandartal...i have no idea of how one can manage to get it :/

The 12AY7 Mic Pre isn't even listed on Electro Harmonix's website yet. I read about it at Harmony Central (press release) a few weeks ago.

Funny that you guy's think the EH website is neandertal. I like it! I especially like how they include mp3 clips of various dudes using the effects. Man, that stuff really sells me. The thing I forget though is that I can't play the freaking guitar as well as most (make that all) these cats!

The dude from guitareffectspedals.com emailed me saying he's got the new pre in stock. They're not listed on their website yet either though. If you get one, post up a review, will ya?

hello ben,

tanx for the tip on the pre's avaliability.

EH's website is as retarded as it gets man :/
no real specs for the products, just descriptions..and its been like that since i can remember..no real update, just adding new products, same dark weird descriptions...

i own two stomps from them, i love the brand..but their website is def not the strongest point. talk about surviving on a reputation.

i will most certainly get one! its gonna take months though, im in europe!

tanx for the heads up!

these guys sure are fast.
im days away from ordering the pre, ppl at the guitareffectspedals.com answered email in the same day. great service!

im def gonna get that from them.

ill try Halion :D

when i get around to it i hope someone can lend me some bandwith..i dont have a website!

Yeah - I had the same experience. They got right back to me. Problem is, I've got no bread right now. I've gotta sell my guitar before I can add this little pre to my "collection" - consisting currently of FMR RNP only.

no bread here either but counting on it in a few days...

u're gonna have a much better "combo" than me though!
ill use this in conjunction with the pres in my (still to adquire) firebox lol

still im expecting a lot.

I'll be happy to supply the webspace for you :) Just drop me a line by e-mail or PM.

hey Halion,

tanx man...im having second thoughts though..i have to decide if i can justify this new pre with a presonus firebox working as my sole interface..

humm...

Buy it! If only to review it :)

Maybe you can return it if you don't like it?

Nah Halion, i cant return it, im gonna get it from the states, its gonna end up close to 300 bucks with all the shipping costs, etc..im probably getting it..im also eyeing a second hand tube-tech, but i think thats just too much at this point - but it would mighty cool..i would own the best pre to ever step foot in my country lol

im gonna get the EA, im pretty sure. i cant return it though, cause itll end up costing me money, but im gonna get it.

ill let you know when im ready to post some samples of it ;)

hey,

even better, if everyone interested sends me 50 bucks

we can make this happen..i promise a very true review!! :D

Ok Diogo and Halion, I've got this thing on order. It should be here in a week or so. After I run it through the paces, I'll let you know what I think. Remember, I've only recorded with a Mackie and an FMR RNP so far, so my opinion will be in comparison with those two.

Only 50 dB output? That seems low. I hope it's quiet in its upper gain range, because you'll probably have to crank it. The Brick is only +55dB and I regularly have to go about 80-85% of max for vocals and acoustic guitar.

Anxious to hear a review, though.
