Does an electro-acoustic (mine's a Yamaha APX-6a) with built in EQ, sweep, etc., require plugged into a DI box before hitting a PA, or does the guitar's built-in preamp itself cover the DI aspect?

I've seen an Award-Session AP-10 (GG10) going for 50 bux. Anyone used one?

Cheers, all
Robin.

a DI boxes prime purpose is to convert a low level signal, generated by magnetic or electro-piezo pick-ups, to a Mic or Line level signal that's balanced, or atleast that's the orignal purpose. Also, certain di's have been known to "warm" up the sound of instruments (Avalon makes a nice one for this purpose). Di's normally allow for more flexibility in outputs also. Linking between different pre's and different effects can add to your sound, while also making it more complicated. Hell, I use one just because the boards to damn far away, and I'm to cheep to buy a longer chord.

Depends on your PA. Sometimes you need a DI for better impedence matching. Some mixers and some PA's have high-z instrument inputs, but if they don't, I send the guitar signal through a DMP-3, then the line out to the line in on the PA. It sounds better than when I plug the Taylor straight into a line in on the PA.-Richie
