LOL. Did you ever hear that guy that played with Yoko and John on the Rolling Stone's Rock and Roll Circus TV program? His name is Ivry Gitlis. It is absolutely dreadful, especially set as it is -- sonically adjacent to Yoko shrieking. Can you imagine two Yokos going off simultaneously? It's like that.
Then there are the great ones, few and far between though they be. Jerry Goodman, of course. Jean-Luc Picar -- I mean, Ponty, certainment. But have you ever heard Don "Sugarcane" Harris ? He played with Harvey Mandel, Frank Zappa, Johnny Otis, John Mayall... he died in 1999. He is the best blues violinist I have ever heard (granted, it's pretty select company). He has a fabulous feel. Listen to him tear up the Little Richard song "Directly From My Heart to You" on the Mothers of Invention classic Weasels Ripped My Flesh (he sings the song too if I recall correctly). He also plays great stuff on John Mayall's 1970 double album Back to the Roots, wherein Mayall recorded some new compositions with a bunch of his former sidemen. (That album is a must for any Clapton and Mick Taylor fan, as they were both at the peak of their powers when this was recorded. Taylor plays a jaw-droppingly beautiful solo on the slow blues "Marriage Madness.") Harris plays some fantastic solos, notably on "Prisons on the Road" (which also features an excellent Clapton solo).

Is that fretted? I've never played a fretted violin - is it tougher? I think the Bach would lend itself well to frets...bring on the Chaconne!
Have you ever goofed around with the izotope 'trash' plug-ins? I couldn't believe the cool things they did with a straight/clean fiddle track...sounds a bit like your J-Station post. Granted, that doesn't work too well live, but still...I felt like I was channeling Jimi to a small degree.
How is TSO going? I missed that gig last season. Are they touring again this year?
I ask many questions, eh?

The fiddle is not fretted. I might buy a six string fretted in the future, but they are expensive.
My computer is old, so I cant do much with plugins. I am diggin the J-Station, but I am finding that the presets do not work very well, so I am trying to make some that are violin-friendly.
Trans-Siberian is going good, I am doing a lot of shows this year. I am also contracting the strings, which is a pain in the ass but a lot more money. Everybody who I want has a conflict, but I dont have the budget to hire subs, so it is an all or nothing gig, one must do all the shows, and I have 16 this year, and some travel.
I will have some real tunes soon. I am doing some stuff with some of the knuckleheads here, so I will get some tunes up soon, Dave
