Electret's to mic acoustic guitar?

Been struggling getting a decent recorded sound from my cheapo acoustic/electric. Direct recording from the built-in (piezo?) pickup sounds terrible. A single Samson CO-5 condenser sounds better. I can get a pair of battery powered electrets quite cheap. Will add internal electronics to make them balanced and phantom powered. Has anybody been down this road?

You could fiddle with EQ and noise filters. But really, if you want what you hear is what you get fidelity, there's no substitution for quality.

You might try upgrading the backend first. Better soundcard? Better monitoring system? I'm still kind of impressed with what a batterybox does for my $10 electret. It aint no $200 mic with it, but it's passible for some $80 mics. Nothing that most people would use on a commercial product, but still.
