Hi All!
Am new to studio design and would appreciate thoughts, comments and direction (to other sites, threads, etc). The better half has deemed part of the basement for a sound studio. The useable area is an 'L' shape with one section 25 x 12 x 7*; the other section is 25 x 14 x 7* -the two 25's intersect each other, *the ceiling is unfinished with the lowest point (duct work) at 7+'.
At the end of the 25 x 14 is an office that could be used possibly as a control room, with initial room size of 11 x 13 x 7.
Am a drummer using an acoustic set, so soundproofing is important both for the other players and the rest of the house. Am planning on doing most of the work myself. That being said, the number of books available is overwhelming and I'm not sure which would best suit my application.
Again, any comments would appreciated.

That's a fair amount of space. Unless you are going to go commercial and have full bands with producers and recording engineers all in there at the same time a separate control room is a waste of budget.

That's it - all I know. Use the search function and read all about bass trapping, isolation, goboes, etc. You don't have to recreate Sigma Sound.

I completely agree. Don't create two rooms out of a 25x14x7 space. Keep it one big room.

Sorry if I mislead. No plans on breaking up the 25 x 14. Have a room at end of the 25' seperated by a standard wall. Was considering adding an additional wall and making the smaller room 11 x 13 a control room.
Again, playing an acoustic set requires soundproofing.

Hmmmmm....I suppose that space really isn't going to do you much good anyhow, so creating a second space makes as much sense as not creating it. I'd probably do it in this case, as long as you have the wherewithal and comittment to isolate it properly. At 11x13x7 you'll also have to acoutsically treat the snot out of it.
