I just got my rig all set up. Heading into my amp is a Big Muff germanium 4 distortion/drive pedal. I read one review where the guy said the drive was pointless and useless. I have to admit I'm having a hard time dialing in a drive sound with it. I can make it operate like a bright switch, a volume boost, or a "tone changer" but never really a good over drive.

ANyone have any experience? Wanna share some settings?

If it matters ... xaviere tele into big muff into peavey delta blues. Thanks for everything guys.

With a Tele and a Delta Blues, I doubt you are after anything EH. Finding a 'proper' overdrive for you is personal, and likely a lifelong endeavor. But just imagine the fun you'll have trying 912 different 'overdrive' (or what the manufacturer claims is an overdrive) or 'distortion' pedals. ;)
There used to be a website with MP3 clips of a vast array of overdrive/distortion pedals, but I can't find it lately. :( There is the 'comparinator' over at OldToneZone.com » The OD Pedal Comparinator, and you can actually hear how similar a lot of them sound. You can set it up where you switch different OD's in and out during the song to hear what they might sound like for you.
You might be a blues player (just a guess), and a lot of the comparinator samples are a Stevie Ray type shuffle.
Check out how close he makes a cheap Bad Monkey sound compared to an OCD.

I'm a blues/rock/country player. (Well I try to play all of those, I don't do much justice to any of them.) I got the Big Muff mainly for the distortion side and the fact that it was basically two pedals in one. I love EHX pedals, I always have. So, I dunno. Thanks for the info though.
