effects on live recordings via computer software

what softwares allow you to record while using an effect within the program? LIke a virtual rack or something like that?

It seems like Reason would do that, but i don't understand how i would implement that. I have no trouble adding effects 'post edit'
but i am talking about something 'while playing'

i know there will be latency, but mine is to 2ms, so should be fine for guitar and vocals ... i would think..

Any help would be very appreciated!

Most recording software supports plug-in effects (DirectX or VST) that can be used in real-time with low-latency drivers.

Reason is a synth/sampler workstation, no? Not a recording app?

i got this sorted....

I had to use a vst send effect in cubase to see it happen, and i don't know really how useful it is anyway....
