effects for akai dps12i

I'm thinking about buying an akai dps12i in the near future.I have read that they offer an optional effects board with it. I was wondering if you can only use the akai effects, or can other effects processors be used? I have an alesis midi verb II. Can I use the midi verb II with the akai? Thanks, David
 
David,
You may use any external effects you like. The unit provides 2 AUX sends for this purpose. I couldn't find any info regarding inserts in the mixer section though. The effects board from Akai would be installed internally, and you would be able to use either,or both. Check out http://www.egroups.com/group/akaidps12

Thanks for the info Twist, The midi verb II that I have is an early 80's model. It is a 16 bit digital effects unit. It has a good sound to be so old. If I can save a few bucks thats the way I'll go. Thanks again, David
