Effect (static )problem with BR8

Im using a Dean Markley pickup on my accoustic guitar and no matter what i do I hear static when recording. Im using effect #1 and the preamp is off and the speaker effect is off as well . With those effects on the static is unbearable. When I use the other 40 or so effects the static increases! The eq is off as well. Any effect i add makes it sound worse. All i want is a clean crisp sound without all that hissing. The funny thing is I dont have this problem when im using my other pickup. (The little round wooden circle you stick on with sticky putty- it picks up vibrations) but when i use the magnetic pickup (the first one i was talking about) in an amp it sounds fine. So im assuming its the settings on the recorder. Can anyone who has this machine help?

Make sure your guitar/pick-up is not too close to the zip drive door when you are recording.

Negotiator hit the nail right on the head answering your question.
I had the same problem with BR-8,pickup to close to the zip drive.
I should have read the manual a little closer it warns about that.
Digital recording is all new to me.
Your right about one thing ,this is a great SITE.
