Educate me on Mixers please? And Interfaces please?

First off: I mainly use my studio to record Rap vocals. I have a USB Presonus Audiobox interface that I used to record with but it broke down so I am looking into buying a new interface. One of my friends mentioned that I should get a mixer instead but the thing is that I am not sure if I REALLY need a mixer or want functions does a mixer have. Does someone mind "educating" me on this??
 
I would assume you wouldn't need anything of the sort if you're only recording vocals. Really, recording almost anything. If you're mixing or summing in analog, that's another (self-evident) story. If you need a dozen preamps and have a console with individual tape outs (assuming you'd have an interface that can handle those outputs) and you really wanted a mixer for some odd reason, it's not like it might not make its way into your workflow. But it's certainly not a necessity in what you're doing at the moment.
 
Read the damn stickies at the top of the forum and edumucate yourself. That's why they are there. :spank: :thumbs up:
 
Now at least you know your 'friend' who recommended a mixer doesn't know what he's talking about!
