Should i change programs from cool edit ?

Rap

anyways right now im useing a mxl 990 and a mixer right into cool edit

i record once in left channel and once in right channel to make it full/reverb type sound

anyways

i go in and do hiss reduction , then go to eq and go to the preset car stereo
then to dynamics and i go to the last preset on there and change the flat
to compress

then record in stereo adlibs and edit them the same way

should i be doing this difrent or a diff program or what ?

the software is fine. you are asking if you should be doing something different. If your results are satisfactory...then no, keep doing what you are doing. If something doesnt sound right then change up. First off though, I wouldn't use the factory presets. Just because you are going to play the song in your car does not mean you should use the "car stereo" preset. Another thing, you said you were recording stereo adlibs...you aren't really recording in stereo unless you are using 2 mics, so if you only have one mic, record everything in mono and pan....it saves space.

hiss reduction might make you lose quality. just try to get the signal in as clean as possible, even if it means a little low on those decibels (you could always compress and raise it up). those presets aren't going to do the best job, use your ears.

at firest with noise reduction, i was using presets. Select and save silent portion (I FREAK when they dont give me several seconds of silence at beginnign and ending of tracks...lmao...) then remove.

once you start playing with the settings...you can prevent a loss in quality sometimes, but pushing the noise down in small steps...IE, dont go for 30 down all at once...3 times, ten at a time is better.

when youre removing something harder than "silence hiss", you can get weird sounds (artifacts?) making odd bell tones or windchime-y noises...go down in steps instead of all at once...i used this to take completely out a dryer with sneaker thumping in it totally out of an otherwise perfect take...we were so into it, we didnt notice till it was too late.

LMAO

I did a "fair to middling" job on a bad bleed once like this...
