Hey Guys, I am going to buy Soundforge so that I can edit the songs that I record. My only question is that I use the Tascam US-122 (ASIO) and I am curious to know if it will be compatible with Soundforge. Thanks!!!!!

What kind of "editing" are you planning on doing? SF is great for individual sound editing and sampling, but it does not multitrack. The most you can do is one stereo track. Are you looking to cut and paste parts, are you looking to effect parts etc.? Let us know more and we can help. As far as compatibility; SF accepts any recorded material through the soundcard.

Yes, as thane1200 has already stated....

SF is a great editor (it is not a multi-tracker).

Depending on the multi-tracker (if you are using a multi-tracker) SF should work with it as an editor. ;)

BTW........

What program/s are you using?

Better yet, please describe your complete setup, so we can fully help you.

I use SF only for mastering and for edit of single tracks.

To edit multitracks you need an interface and software that will read and edit your Tascam.
This all gets complicated, and I have done it before using 3 ADAT's, motu 2406 and cakewalk and Sound Forge .
But I use a PC and not a MAC so motue kept crashing things.

I now use only the PC with scsi hard drives, sonic foundry vegas, sound forge, cd architect, and some others.
I have all compatable software and use a Delta 1010 for D/A and A/D.
I also still use external gear and a mixer as there are some things that the PC software cant sound like like a good lexicon.
My system does more than will I need, and never crashes.

I guess to conclude, if you want total controle over recording and editing, build a PC or MAC and do everything from there.

Dedicated Recorders are great if you dont want to take the time to learn how to use a PC, or for recoeding live multitracks but, you will always be limited in what you can do ;-)

What I should have said was I plan on mastering the stereo mix down of a song in Sound Forge. I record with Sonar 4 Studo Edition. And I was gonna polish and perfect the final stereo mix In soundforge. Most people on here use soundforge for this reason all together. Thanks!

have you looked into wavelab? and if so, why do you prefer sf over wavelab?
