Editing out String Squeak

I've been tracking a fingerpicking guitar part that involves sliding up and down the neck. I've tried altering my playing style, using wax, mineral oil etc. but can't totally eliminate the string squeak.

I really don't want to use EQ to eliminate the noise since I like the tone I'm getting. I'm thinking of trying to simply edit out the squeaks (SONAR 2.0 XL).

Has anyone tried this, and if so, how did it work?

I know of no way to eliminate it without either:

a) Learning to play to part cleanly, with minimal string noise. This is that hardest solution, but also the best.
b) EQing

You may be tempted to go in and create a volume envelope, but my experience with that is it results in a really faltering, unnatural track.

Try this, dip your fingertips in a little water, or (ugh) lick them, leaving exposed to the moisture for a few seconds; it softens the callouses and lessens the squeak

Major Tom,

Licking my fingers worked well, thanks for the tip.

Good thing I remembered to wash them first...
