One Hit Wonder
I do most of my recording/mixing in CW PA9. Then I generally use Wavelab 3.0 for final finishing (mastering). However, occasionally I want to edit an individual Cakewalk track using Wavelab.

I had a demo version of Sound Forge, and I think I recall that when I double-clicked on a single audio track in CW's Audio View the waveform of the CW track would open up within Sound Forge.

However, when I do this with Wavelab, the Wavelab program itself opens, but the CW Track doesn't open.

The only way I can seem to do this is to create an external wave file of the track using the Export/Audio command, and then manually opening the file from Wavelab. Then, after I make my changes, I have to resave it and import it back into CW. This is cumbersome. I would like it to work like I remember Sound Forge working with Cakewalk.

Does anyone know if this can be done, or is it just another case of digital wishful thinking?

dachay2tnr, Although I don't doubt that you have done that with Cake and SoundForge, I didn't think Cake's file system worked with any other editing programs like that. I have been doing it with WaveLab just like you said....export a wave from Cake and then open it in WaveLab, edit and then import back into Cake. It IS cumbersome, and your idea is very good. I wish Cakewalk management would make their program a bit for functional with other programs. Otherwise, I just live with it. I just wish WaveLab was multi-track, then I would be in heaven...I would only need one program! I know this doesn't help you, but your idea is great.

Robert - From another newsgroup I was told that getting Wavelab version 3.03b would correct the problem (I currently use version 3.0). I haven't had a chance to do it yet - but since going from 3.0 to 3.03b is free, I'm going to give it a try.

I also read another post from someone who complained he could do this in Wavelab 2.0 but couldn't in 3.0. Unfortunately I couldn't find if he got an answer.

Bottom line is that it sounds like it was a bug in ver. 3.0 which was fixed with the patch to 3.03b.

You might want to try it also.
