I know its USB but its USB 2 about the same as firewire? Anybody got this and is it worth a look at all?

Firewire is much faster than USB, but depending on your needs, the extra speed may be a waste of money.

Consider your needs:

1) how many simulataneous tracks do I want to record?
2) how many simutalneous tracks do I want to play back?
3) what sort of growth potential do I want in my system (i.e., what will I be doing a year from now...)

etc.

Compare your needs to the Edirol specs and a make a choice.

I was definitely headed in Firewire direction BUT this is USB 2 which is almost exactly the same speed as firewire 1. So it was intrigueing.

10/10 out was also good but I cannot find much on it. No one has bought it and given any reviews, I wonder how the premps sound with a mic. Or really what others think it sounds like:)

But I also know about 150.00 more gets me a Motu 828 MKII so I am leaning back and forth.

Then the RME hits me but the thought of buying all those preamps and the fact that its 250.00 more the Edirol and 100.00 more then the motu is making me think about it some more.

I guess its hard to think that the RME A/D converters are that much better. Since with the preamps it will be over 1000 more in the 1100 range.

Just read a little review on it in Computer Music magazine, they're computer was a P4 2.8 with a Asus P4T-533 mb with a gig of ram, and Windows XP, they couldn't get it installed to save their lives (they even talked to the people who designed it, and even they were stumped), but they installed it on a different machine with "no problem", said it ran fine and performed as advertised, didn't really say anything about the sound quality, but a couple pages later they reviewed the MOTU 2408, and they did say it sounded great at 24/96 (don't know it it uses the same A/D as the 828II though).

So if your going to try the UA-1000, make sure you can get a full refund if it won't work with your system.
