Edirol Problems

I've just bought an Edirol UA20, and I have a yamaha MG16/4 mixer. I am using two mono cables from the left and right stereo outs of the mixer, into the left and right inputs of the Edirol, and I am not getting any signal on the computer, or if I use the headphones on the UA20, even though I have assigned the channels of the mixer my pressing the ST on button.

The only time I have had any signal was when I plugged a guitar directly in and changed the input select from line which i was using for the mixer to guitar, and this was only hearable on the Edirol itself, and wasn't sending any signal to the comp either, I am using cubase sx. What am I doing wrong?

Now I can hear everything fine when i use the headphone jack on the UA20, and I can record using the Windows Sound recorder, so now it must be that the software isnt setup right, with Cubase I get nothing, no signal at all, and with Sonar LE I can hear what I recorded, but its distorted.

Anyone got any ideas?
