Finally tried out the ECM8000, and I have to say that I was very satisfied with the results. I come from the old school where if the overhead mics are not C12, C12A, or M49s you run out and rent a set. After hearing so much about these mics I decided to try a set and see for my self. My setup was (2) ECM8000 for Oheads, (1) SM57 on snare, (1) Beyer LD condensor on the Kick (front head off) I brought up the overheads and instally heard everyone in the room say WOW!!! I then brought up the Beyer and 57, and was pretty much finished dialing in the drum sound. With a sprinkle of EQ on the kick and snare I was rolling Adat tape in about 15 minutes, and tracked drums on 4 songs on about 2 hours. The band had never heard the drums sound so good and mentioned that the last studio they recorded at (@$65 per hour)
could not come close the sound we got in 15 minutes. I gained a new very happy client and are planning on having their freinds give me a call for their upcoming projects. Sure the mics are omni, and lack a little low end but the sound is extermely accurate. Placement played a bigger role that equalization in my case. I boosted 160Hz@2db, and 730Hz@1db and was immediately in business.

Thanks for the info! It's good to know you got such good results out of such inexpensive equipment.
