How does the ECM8000 do on vocals? Does it do atleast a halfway decent job? Is it good on anything other than acoustic guitars, and overheads?

thanks,
Will

the Emc8000 is not to bad on vocals, if you like a natural sounding voice, even when you sing close 2 the mic.
A lot of folks don't like it because there are used 2 hear the 'hyped' sound from vocalist mic's. if you wan't a more hyped sound from the emc you need 2 eq it.

example: 90hz + 3db , 10khz + 2 db ,maybe cut a little high-mid

as a matter of fact i like the emc on a lot of instruments, because it gives a more overal sound

hope this helps,

remco

alright thanks, that helped alot. I would rather have the more natural sound.

Most importantly make sure you have a nice sounding room. On vocals that ECM will pick up a lot of room ambience.

Most vocalists probably would not be crazy about working with that mic. First of all, with no proximity effect, they can't "work" the mic distance to get those extra rich low notes or add beef to very soft passages. Secondly, the mic is not going to give their sound any "help". It's just gonna be what it be. No enhancement or flavor added. That means the vocalist better have a hell of a sound on their own, cause they ain't gettin' no "extras" from the mic. Most vocalists I know enjoy a little help.

But, can't hurt to try, i s'pose.

I think they're outstanding on tamborines and shakers.

They're also about the best value in room mics . . . like ever.

I like to use this mic on acoustic guitar in stereo config with my 603s. I put the ECM somewhere near the bridge-bout to pick up the bass freqs without the proximity effect and boominess.

Harvey Gerst also pointed out the omnis are good for the "over-the-shoulder-technique" of micing acoustic guitars, and I use it that way a lot--positioned over the right shoulder about 6"-12" above the bout, slightly in front of the guitar, pointing down toward the bridge.

alright looks like im gonna have to buy a couple of these

thanks for the help.
