Echo problem with MD recording

Recently I recorded a live band with DAT and MD recorders.Analogue stereo out from desk into DAT then same into MD.When I replayed my recording the DAT was ok but the MD has a short echo,phase?problem.It sounds like its coming though a short drain pipe.But no drain pipes where included in the recording setup! This problem has occured also with (same recorder) when ive done other recordings.Any ideas what may be wrong?

It depends on the exact sound, and the type of MD recorder,...

but on minidisc dot org I've read of cases where certain music content can freak out the ATRAC data compression system, but only on certain models.

Chances are that your "echo" or "phase" problem has nothing to do with the ATRAC not "tracking" right.

Depending on your setup, as you were only partially specific,... but if the DAT is inline between the console and MD recorder,... could the DAT system be throwing some "latency" on one of the lines? Just a thought.
