ok, so i think i have decided on the Echo Mia Audio Card...

i read that it comes with Cool Edit Pro...is that the full version or just the demo?

that'd be great to have the full Pro version...it is like 300$..makes the Echo cards that much more appealing...

i think it is going to be good for me because i only need 1 input and 1 output....

does having it go in with a 1/4" jack really make it sound better than going in with an 1/8'' jack?

24 bit rather than 16bit....does that really make a sound quality difference?

it seems pretty easy to use, plug and play and only 200$, i think this is the card for me....if you have one or know someone who uses one, could you please give me some feedback on my decision....

right now i am using a Sound Blaster Live! please tell me that it will make a difference in sound quality and cure those ever present latency problems...

thanks a lot guys

I have a Darla24.

Cool Edit is LE, not Pro. Basically, not much, kind of a waste.

24bit indeed makes a big difference, at least for my ears.

I personally have no latency problems, sounds like a good fit!

cool edit le?

what is Cool Edit LE? limited edition? that's another mark for 24 bit being better...anything to make my music sound better :) thanks for the response

I'm using a Mia with an SBlive together in my PC. Great combo, no problems. I use the SBLive for MIDI, soundfont stuff and CD-audio and use the Mia for all audio recording and audio playback.

The CoolEdit IS the LE version and I found it meager and clunky at best. Spend $59 and get a copy of N-Track Studio at www.n-track.com (they have a free demo there you can experiment with). For audio work it can't be beat for the price.

To my ears, going from the SBlive to the Mia was a BIG difference and well worth it.

i checked out N-Track and it looks similar to Cool Edit 2000, which is what i have now..i am going to stick with CE2000, because i am used to it, using a different one will just make things harder...thanks for the feedback..i will be getting Echo Mia very soon

i don't use any MIDI...would keeping SB Live still be beneficial? couldn't i just use Mia for everything?

I dont think you can play a CD with Mia, you will need Soundblaster for that, unless you have a program like wavelab.

According to the site...The Mia comes with Cubasis vst.

mia comes with CEP SE definitely...i think some of the other Echo cards come with Cubasis (layla?)......

Well they better change their site cuz it says it comes with Cubasis vst...

looks like you are right....they will start putting Cubasis VST with all of their products...they didnt do it soon enough....if anyone does order it, its possible there is stock still out there with the Cool Edit software...though im sure theyd send you an upgrade CD......

thanks guys for the information...i already have cool edit 2000, so i don't think that will really be the deciding factor for getting Mia, but the sound card itself sounds perfect for my cause...atleast a lot better than ths SB LIve! take care...

Um, you can't really compare CE 2000 to n-Track, or any multitracker. For one thing it's not a multitracker, and you can only multitrack using their stupid "mixit" plugin, and that only supports 4 tracks at a time. Then it doesn't support multiple I/O devices which will be a pain if you want to use the Mia and your soundblaster (it might also cause problems with multi I/O cards that register as multiple devices).

As for features, it doesn't support VST plugins and it doesn't look like it supports DXi or VSTi (instruments). The instruments might not be a big deal, but VST support can certainly be a big deal once you realize that there are more VST plugins around than DX (tons of free ones).
